Aug 25 – The United Way hosted a “Drive 4Ur Community” event at Jackson Ford Friday to kick off their campaign season.
From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., people are able to come in and test drive vehicles at Jackson Ford in Decatur with no pressure to buy the car. For each test drive, Ford will donate $20 to the United Way.
Brandon Boey came in to Jackson to look for a car and when he saw the United Way sign, he said that made it even better. “If anyone can come and sign a waiver and test drive a car to give back to the community, that’s easy money for the community.”
While at Jackson Ford, members of the United Way board announced the official start of the season and their goals for the year. Debbie Bogle, Executive Director of the United Way of Decatur, said their goal is pretty simple. “The goal is to raise $1.6 million and it’s going to take a lot of work to reach that and it will take everyone in the community to help us reach that.”
The money raised will go towards making sure all residents have “the ability and opportunity to provide for themselves and their families without subsidized assistance.”
They achieve this goal through their six lines of effort which include: Youth Education, Adult Education & Training, Health, Safety, Inform, and Essential Services & Program Linkage.
