Cincinnati, OH (October 17, 2017) – United Way will host the Women United® Summit from October 18-20, convening 300 philanthropic leaders to share ideas and inspiration for driving lasting community change. Keynote speakers include Anna Maria Chávez, former Chief Executive Officer of the Girls Scouts of the USA, Lisa Bowman, Chief Marketing Officer of United Way Worldwide, Lori Malcom, Chief Culture Officer of United Way Worldwide and Brian Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide.
Founded in 2002, Women United is comprised of over 70,000 women donors and volunteers, that have raised more than $1.5 billion to solve local problems, often for girls’ empowerment initiatives, school readiness, bolstering reading and strengthening families. Since its founding, Women United has become the fastest growing affinity group within the United Way, boasting a 2.3% percent increase in donor growth from 2015-2016.
“These women have rolled up their sleeves and are ready to go to work,” said Bowman, “They are ready to fight to make our communities a better place by influencing policy and investing in solutions that positively impact lives. By helping United Way lift up entire communities, Women United is the latest success in United Way’s legacy of addressing local problems at the local level.”
Because early childhood education is a focus for United Way of Greater Cincinnati and its Women United members, Summit attendees will be creating 300 learning kits comprised of books, school supplies and enrichment materials and delivering them to area preschools.
In Cincinnati, Women United leaders were key drivers of the passage of Issue 44 on November 8, 2016 promising quality preschool for thousands of children. As a result, the number of Cincinnati Public School children ready for kindergarten has increased by 58 percent.
Women United is committed to the fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community. Learn more about the Women United: www.womenunited.org
